Dressing for success (My views):

Looking through the articles,I personally received a slight shock that several companies do deny jobs for people due to their appearance such as factors including weight and height and even makeup. In my honest opinon,I feel that it's not really that fair and reasonable that companies made their choices based on one's looks and figure.

No doubt that looking good on the outside is important as it leaves the first impression on others of oneself and too does add bonus points in one' s job, just as what was stated in one of the articles,as seen in 'Looking good on the job is an intangible asset that can be important, just as sharp technology skills or the ability to be a team player can give certain workers an edge.' However, what does matter is the abilities and skills of one's,isn't it? As compared to a person who have fabulous image and manner,a person with business talents and techniques is much more useful to the company itself, and may even help the company rise to a higher level and expand its business to overseas.

As another sentence stated in another article,'Any company hiring in this economy is banking on a new employee making a key contribution immediately and understand fully its immediate needs.', it is comforting to realise abilities and talents are still crucial in the application of jobs so long one looks presentable enough.

What does success mean to you?
Success can come in many forms and the true meaning of success is different for every individual and depends on one's quest of life.Personally,I feel success is an accomplishment or achievement of what one's truly wants/desires and really work hard and never once had give up for.Only himself/herself can feel and experience the sweet rush of success when one really attained it.As one quote says,'Success is a journey, not a destination.',the meaning of success lies in the courage of overcoming one's fears and failure and continue doing one's work without being disheartened.

Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa, born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Yugoslavia, felt a calling early to serve the poor. She joined an Irish order of nuns serving in Calcutta, India, and received medical training in Ireland and India. She founded the Missionaries of Charity and focused on serving the dying, with many other projects as well. She was able to garner considerable publicity for her work which also translated into successfully financing the expansion of the order's services.
Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She died in 1997 after long illnesses, and was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 19, 2003.

Why was she successful to me and how did she inspired me?
Mother Teresa spent her life and devoted her time to serving the poor, extending out her hand to those who needed care, love and concern. She never give up on the unwanted or unloved or despise the poorest ones, giving them all her support and help without once regretting her decision to share her life with them.Even though she was not a millionaire or a famous entrepuenur, her compassion, sincerity and love touched many hearts of people around the world and inspire others as rarely will anyone just sacrifice and commitone's time to share and pass own's love to the more unfortunate.

I want to learn from her,and serve the poor and extends my love and care and what I could do to help them as much as i can.All these voluntary acts not only does they contribute to the world and society, they too help and brighten up the lives of the more unfortunate people around the world.I too want to gain the experience and learn more about them and help light up their lives.

How can this programme help me to get closer to my goals?
As this programme involves community work,it will help me learn to serve others, experience extending my love and care and giving them help and support to the fullest.Furthermore, this programme too allow me to know myself better and learn how to boost one's confidence and to perform to the best and fullest potential.

Training Camp
Heys ;DI have just came back from my GB training camp yesterday night and am going to blog about this 3 days camp and all the experience and learning points that i have gained, but only the main things because there're just too much we have done.

First Day:
We reported at Living Sanctuary Brethen Church right early in the morning and the first activity was a bag check/inspection.It's a compulsory practice in our uniformed group and we've always been bag-inspected in every of our camps as we were not allowed to bring stuff we were not supposed to bring such as sweets, handphone or stuff toys, only could follow the packing list.Anyone who get caught will of course, have the punishment.

During the inspection,we have to lined our things all on the carpet following the chart screened on the projector, given only 2 minutes. And,when 'start!' was shouted out,all of us just grab and dump everything out of the our bags and lined all the stuff as quickly as possible.Officers were then checking both the time and our stuff. However,we didn't make it in the first time.Due to the time limit.Everyone have to pack their stuff into our bags and zip it all up.Then, second 'start!' was shouted,we were RUSHING without even caring if our clothes were in a mess or crumpled,as we know that if we still didn't make it,we have to do it again and again. And YES,finally we finished this time round. The bag inspection was eventually over.

Through this inspection,we understand further the importance of speed and discipline and not take things slowly as we want.Though the inspection was tiring and frenzy,we persevered and managed to complete it.

Other than the bag inspection mentioned above,we too have other practices which are compulsory in our company such as TOILET DUTY-we have to clean up the toilet after bathing, make sure the floor and basin are dry without any drops of water and no dust.BREAKFAST DUTY-cleaning up the bread crumbs and any dirt after our breakfast.and lots more.

Second Day:
Second day was FUNFUNFUN!Our whole company were out the entire day and it was a form of physical training for us.We walked more than 8 or 9 km and probably more than that, just on our feets. There was a Southern Ridge walk for us and we trekked from a place which is near a road all the way to Vivocity for lunch, going through a super LONG white bridge whch go round and round and even high from the ground and a small forest. It was quite fun along the way, though. We met snakes and get close to nature although the walk made our legs all wobbly and tired.

Lunch at Vivo was the best, maybe the best meal that we have throughout all the camps. Each of us were given $5 and could have our food at any place we want, whether burger king,KFC or even subway.Group 3,my group decided to have ours at Macdonalds, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.Had fries,fillet-o-fish and coke, chatting lots :DDD as we know that we have to cherish our meal as later at Sentosa,we're going to walk a long way again.

Going to Sentosa,we took the monorail and had Amazing Race there. In fact,we practically walked from one end of sentosa to the other end and all around it as we weren't allowed to take any bus or tram unless it rained heavily. We had to find the answers to the questions given and the fastest group who completed will win.During our journey, our group met alot of kind souls who helped us the best that they can and even managed to complete our bonus qns-say and write out 'see you soon' in japanese and korean,as we in luck, met korean tourists and tour guides! We were so surprised and excited, continuing or journey taking lots of pictures. ;D

Just as we were going to complete, there came a sudden and long downpour and rained extremely heavily. All the groups quickly ran to find shelter and our group met another group along the way.Wearing our ponchos,we ran in the rain and realised that ponchos were useless._. as we were drenched from head to toe by the time we reached the bus-stop to take bus to The Merlion. Our arms and legs were all wet and the worse were our shoes! They're completely soaked as in the midst of reaching bus-stop,we had to run in rainwater, the depth as high as slightly above our ankles.

After reaching The Merlion,we had to run in the rain again and were all left cold, tired and sticky as we wait for other groups to reach there. In the end,we have to gather up our final energy to go back to the Church.

Third Day:
Final Day of camp were not yet, relaxing at all.We had drills, drills for hours even though our legs and arms are sore and aching after the second day. However,we just have to continue with it and later it finally marked the end of our camp as we home sweet home ;D

What does scholarship mean to you?
To me,a scholarship is an acknowledgement and approval of one's efforts, talents or even abilities of all sorts such as arts, studies and leadership. It can come in the form of money, subsidy or other aid, granted to a student to further pursue his or her dreams and gain new and more experience and learn meaningful skills.

What responsibilities does a scholar have?
A scholar will have to continue serving the community and people and make contributions.Without giving up,a scholar will complete all his or her duties and tasks and put in their best efforts and make full use of rare opportunities given to them or come their way to perform to their fullest potential.

What are some of the obstacles you think you will face?
I think that i may not be outspoken enough and express my ideas and feelings in the way i wanted. Also,I may face poor time management on my own and could not plan my time and schedule well, because of the large amount of activities such as CCA,homework, projects and this could leads to incompletion of work and tasks or that the standard is not the best that i can go.

Is scholar also a leader? How so?
Yes,a scholar is and can too be a leader.A scholar will be able to lead and have strong leadership skills and thus, have the same qualities as leaders. They, furthermore, will have to guide people to the right direction and influence them in a postive way.

Who and how do you intend to serve as a scholar?
I intend and want to serve anybody, the community and the world, especially the less fortunate and people who need my help in any kind of way.Strongly believing in spreading love and kindness among people and extending my hand to those in need,I'm willing to do voluntarily work, such as visiting and helping out at old folks' home, hospice, homes for children and the intectually-disabled.Personally,i have been to the examples listed above before and help out and have learn a great deal and gain experiences i've never gain before.

Describe Yourself:
I'm Ivy Oh,from class 203 and a part of The Girls' Brigade which is my CCA.Being a sister in my family,I have a younger brother and am just like any teenage girl who loves to have fun and spent time and moments together with family members and friends. My primary school is Nan Chiau Primary School (NCPS) and i'm proud to come from there and too, enjoy being a part in my CCA.

My Motivations:
Usually,i gain motivation from myself and especially, friends and family. Those encouragement, care and concern have always push me and makes me strive for the very best and to achieve excellence.I didn't want to disappoint them, and be one of the causes of worries for them. And neither do i want them to feel sad, after all the efforts and expectations they placed in me.

Personality:
As a phrase had said 'Everyone is unique, and no one will be the same.',I believed that each and every person have their strengths and weaknesses and interesting sides. As for me,i'm a carefree and free-spirited person, seeks excitement and adventure.Often,i love to have fun and is outgoing, prefering to stay and play outdoors such as sports and games, whether at a basketball court or beach.Yet,i have times when i'm shy and not really outspoken, and would be nervous during public speaking. At other times,i am just myself.

Strengths and weaknesses:
Determination and perseverance are my strengths. When i've set my mind on something,i will never give up halfway and will overcome any difficulties or obstacles that come along.I too have a reponsible attitude and positive outlook on both life and work and try to look at things and situations in different perpectives. Moreover,I give my best in things that i do and strongly believe in my principles and what i believe in.However,I would be too strong-willed towards certain tasks and stubborn in my thinking.Furthermore,I'm quite undecisive in making decisions in life and different situations at times.

Likes:
I love exciting and adventurous stuff and seeks fun,and i've always like to try out jumping out from an aeroplane high up in the sky in a parachute and experience the feeling of flying.Isn't that cool? Also,I love all kinds of sports including cycling, swimming, ball sports and especially water sports such as wakeboarding and kayaking.Even though i've never tried wakeboarding before, but i really wish to try it out and this includes scuba-diving too!My hobbies also includes watching television, hanging out at the beach and friends. You can say that i'm a television addict, which is true actually as i can sit in front of the television and spent up to 6 to 8 hours watching and not get bored, munching on potato chips and other snacks now and then.

Dislikes:
As for my dislikes,I dislike quarrels and arguments and even worse, get trapped in one.Yet,they are the ones which makes life more interesting and strengthen bonds and relationship between friends and families, aren't they?In addition,I dislike not having the choice and freedom to make my own decisions and what i like or prefer and being controlled in what i want to do.
